Overview of Obagi Peels
The Obagi Radiance Peel is a superficial chemical face peel, using salicylic acid. The treatment exfoliates the skin and deep cleans the pores and as such is a highly effective solution for tackling acne. As a superficial procedure, there is no visible peeling associated with the treatment, which means no downtime and no real recovery period, as there is with traditional chemical peels.
The Obagi Blue Peel® works at a deeper level and is closer to a traditional chemical peel. A low level of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used, combined with a blue pigment, which ensures even distribution during the procedure. The peel removes multiple surface layers of damaged and blemished skin, to reveal fresher, healthier looking skin. As a more in depth solution it can better tackle more pronounced conditions.
Both treatments are highly effective at addressing skin issues, including blackheads, large, blocked pores, acne, scars, blemishes and other age related damage. The real difference between the two treatments is the chemical used, the depth of treatment and associated recovery period.
Obagi is a respected brand of beauty and aesthetic products, founded by leading skin care experts in 1988.

About Obagi Peels
What’s The Difference Between An Obagi Blue Peel® & An Obagi Radiance Peel?
Both treatments are highly effective at addressing skin issues, including blackheads, large, blocked pores, acne, scars, blemishes and other age related damage. The real difference between the two treatments is the chemical used, the depth of treatment and associated recovery period. To discuss which treatment would be most suited to you please get in touch and book free a consultation.
Can I Have A Facial Peel Whilst Pregnant/Breastfeeding?
Obagi face peels are not suitable for anyone who is pregnant/breastfeeding.
How Does An Obagi Facial Peel Work?
The Obagi Radiance Peel is a superficial chemical face peel, using salicylic acid. The treatment exfoliates the skin and deep cleans the pores. The Obagi Blue Peel® works at a deeper level and is closer to a traditional chemical peel. A low level of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is used, combined with a blue pigment. The peel removes multiple surface layers of damaged and blemished skin.
Do Facial Peels Hurt?
Due to it’s superficial nature, the Radiance Peel involves very little discomfort – just a little heat when the product is first applied. The Blue Peel® is more like a traditional chemical peel and as such there is a level of discomfort as the skin is shed in the week following treatment.
Will It Help With Acne Scarring And/Or Sun Damage?
Face peels can be highly effective in treating acne and sun damage. Ordinarily, a Radiance Peel is the best solution for acne, whilst a Blue Peel® is best for scarring and long term or more pronounced damage
Who Is An Obagi Facial Peel Suitable For?
Obagi Face Peels are suitable for most skin types. Individual skin conditions and requirements will dictate whether the Blue Peel® or Radiance Peel is the most suitable for you. All options will be discussed at a consultation and a solution tailored to best suit your needs.
How Much Does An Obagi Facial Peel Cost?
The Radiance Peel is £100 per peel and a package of three peels costs £250. The Blue Peel® costs from £1200, which includes the pre and post peel product.
What Happens At My Consultation?
During your first consultation Mr Ahmad assesses you and the areas of concern. Mr Ahmad then discusses treatment options and gives his suggestions regarding the best options available. Risks and benefits are discussed and when you have completely understood and agreed, Mr Ahmad delivers the treatment.
How Long Does The Treatment Take?
A Radiance Peel takes approximately 30 minutes in total – including a pre-treatment cleanse. The peel is only on your skin for 12 minutes. For the most effective results four sessions are recommended.
A Blue Peel® takes between 30-40 minutes.
Are There Any Side Effects To The Procedure?
Ordinarily the Radiance Peel is free from side effects, occasionally however small areas of irritation can occur following treatment, these areas can turn red and a little flaky, but can be easily treated with a moisturiser.
Due to the more indepth nature of the Blue Peel®, the skin is shed in the week following the treatment, this is expected and part of the planned procedure.
Will I Need An Anesthetic?
No. Not for the Radiance peel but the Blue Peel® treatments can be painful during administration. This is controlled by administering painkillers prior to the procedure. There may be some discomfort as the skin is shed in the week following the Blue Peel®, but this can be easily managed by using paracetamol
Will I See The Surgeon Again After The Procedure?
Yes, a follow up appointment will be arranged for you to see Mr. Ahmad again.
How Long Do The Results Last?
Blue Peel® is recommended every 6 weeks or so. Radiance Peel can be performed whenever you feel to refresh and rejuvenate skin.
Do I Need To Take Any Time Off Work?
The Radiance Peel requires no downtime, you can return to work immediately. Following the Blue Peel®, the skin will shed for approximately one week and during this time you are strongly advised not to wear makeup or expose your skin to the sun, as such many people also choose to take the week off work.
When Can I Wear Makeup Again?
Following the Radiance Peel you can wear makeup again immediately. Following the Blue Peel® you are advised to avoid makeup for a week.
